Hotel du Vin (Winchester) | Flora & Gavin’s Wedding

18/01/2024
Hotel Du Vin - Winchester
Flora & Gavin approached me after I photographed Flora’s sister’s wedding a few years ago. She did at first hesitate, as she knew that I was based in Cheltenham and as her wedding was going to be in Winchester, wasn’t sure that i’d travel a few hours. Travel for me is not a hindrance, personally I love to get in a car, (or plane!) and explore, where ever that may be. Winchester, actually is only 90 min away anyway, so definitely not out of my “capture” zone. My wife’s family used to also live down the road, so I know the area quite well.

Flora and Gavin, like many couples, wanted an informal, low key wedding. They generally disliked being the centre of attention, and were nervous of a great song and dance, so instead, they invited just the closest friends and family. Photography wise, they chose me, because they liked my subtle candid approach. I only get involved as and when it requires, such as a large group shot, or to capture the odd family and friend picture. When I do, take over, I try and make the shots fun and never take along time doing so. Group phots, should take no more than 10-15 min at the best of times. Flora & Gavin gave me 5 minutes! Which was absolutely fine, as the rest of the time, they can relax, chat to friends and family whilst I photograph the essence of their special wedding day.

Instead of taking photographs of Flora and Gavin getting ready, they wanted me to start as they arrived at Winchester registry office, photograph their reception at Hotel Du Vin (Winchester obv) and stay until just after their speeches. At the end of the day, it’s their/your wedding day and I’m always happy to tailor make my services to what is needed.

What a lovely wedding. Thank you Flora & Gavin for letting me be a part of your special wedding day.
